Camping Tents, What You Should Consider Before Buying

first thing to think about when planning a camping trip and buying the tents and other camping equipment,is the weather. One vacation, about 9 months after my son was born, we decided to go tent camping at Stone mountain, georgia. The campground was great, the camping sites were good, but about half way through the week, the temperature had risen to over 100 degrees around atlanta.

Can you say heat rash? A nine month old and hot humid weather just don't mix. We did have a good time, even though we did have to go to a hotel for the hottest night to get some relief. Being from florida, we thought that we would be able to handle the heat, but for some reason, I had never been that hot before. So we learned to check the weather, for extremes of heat and cold.

But, everyone that loves nature and enjoys the outdoors and who loves nothing better than to rest his or her head on the tent floor, well not exactly on the floor, will surely consider buying camping tents as a very important part of outdoor adventure. Myself, I like some comfort, so thick mats or cots are in order. It follows that you should make a concerted effort in researching the available camping tents and also checks whether the camping tents you are interested in will be good for the type of camping area you are going to pitch the tent on.

When choosing your camping tent, in addition to the weather check out other important factors, such as danger from wildlife and what you can expect the recreational facilities will be. Camping tents are ideal also for those that do not like the idea of sleeping in sleeping bags out in the open.

Obviously, if your camping tent is to be used on a hike, your tent has to be lightweight and easily packed in. But, most of us will be camping with our car, SUV or truck. So, make sure that you check out the size of the camping tent, which should comfortably hold the people who are going to be using it. If you choose large ones then make sure that they can be pitched in the areas where you are going camping, but that should not be a problem if you are staying at a campground.

Back to my first point of the weather, another thing you need to consider is where you are going camping and choose the camping tent that is suitable for the region. You would need a completely different type of tent if you are going to alaska than if you were heading for the Mojave Desert.

For an Alaskan camping excursion you would require camping tents that are very thick as well as durable, and which have enough strength to withstand the elements. On the other hand, camping tents used for places like the Mojave desert, though they must be strong should also not be very thick as you will feel suffocated inside the hot surroundings if there is not proper ventilation provided. Most of us, will probably not be camping in the extremes of weather, though, so choosing a tent good for moderate temperatures is the best idea.

Another important consideration when choosing camping tents is the cost involved. You can buy a tent that only costs only a few hundred dollars, but others can cost a few thousand and it really depends on the quality, size, strength as well as manufacturer. As everyone who has bought camping tents will have realized, they are a great purchase and will be your first step in having many wonderful vacations for years.
